Young Adult Reading Challenge

Well, that didn't take long. My friend DarlingDiva from the Things That Make Me Happy and apparently the new Tales of a Ravenous Reader blog that she didn't tell me she started (hrmpf!) commented on my Stats and Reading Challenge Post last night, stating that she had joined an Audio Book Challenge and a Young Adult Book Challenge. So I checked out the one she joined and decided to give it a go. The 2009 Young Adult Book Challenge is hosted by blogger J. Kaye of J. Kaye's Book Blog. I'm pretty sure all I have to do is list the 12 books I am challenging myself to read, link my post to the challenge and then check off the books as I go along. It doesn't exactly say in the rules that you have to post a review . . . but I bet I'm supposed to. I'll do my best. :)

Here is my tentative list of YA Books I'd like to read for this Challenge:

In no particular order . . .
1. Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke (Inkheart trilogy, Book 3)
2. Graceling by Kristin Cashore
3. Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray
(Gemma Doyle trilogy, Book 3)
4. Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr
Fragile Eternity by Melissa Marr
6. Rumors by Anna Godbersen (The Luxe, Book 2)
7. Envy by Anna Godbersen(The Luxe, Book 3)
8. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins (sequel to the amazing novel The Hunger Games!)
9. Marked by P.C. and Kristin Cast (House of Night, Book 1)
10. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead (Vampire Academy, Book 1)
11. The Graveyard by Neil Gaiman
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter, Book 7)

Wish me luck!

Edited to Add:
My list is posted no longer than two hours and already I'm altering it! LOL Kati just reminded me of an upcoming YA novel that looks really good, so I'm going to add it to my YA reading queue.

13. Rampant by Diana Peterfreund.

  1. Hey! I just stumbled across J. Kaye's blog this morning too and joined the e-book challenge!

  2. Oh that's so funny! My cursor lingered over the ebook Challenge, too. But I'm a fool if I thought I could do FIVE challenges. I'm foolish enough thinking I could possibly pull off FOUR! LOL

I'm good at making the lists of books I want to read, though.... ;)

  3. *wishes you luck*

    for all four challenges! :)

  4. Thanks, Taja! I need all the luck I can get, because self-discipline alone just doesn't cut it for me! LOL!

  5. Good luck! I just downloaded the first Libba Bray book "A Great and Dangerous Beauty" (or something to that effect).

I'm also getting ready to read an ARC of Rampant by Diana Peterfreund. Evil unicorns abound! Woohoo!

  6. Kati:: You should join the YA Challenge! It's 12 young adult novels in a year. I don't even think you have to do one a month. It's your pace as long as you finish by December 31, 2009.

  7. Kati:: Oh!!! That's a new series by Diana Peterfreund, isn't it? I wasn't too interested in her contemporary YA books.... but Rampant?! It looks really really interesting and what a gorgeous cover! I can't wait for you to read it so you can tell me what it's like!

  8. Good luck Christine & Amy!!!

Wow, ALL you ladies REALLY rock and roll! lol

  9. Thanks, Lea. Signing up was the easy part. Following through is another story! For me at least. Amy will Rock 'n Roll. She's a more voracious reader than I. ;)

  10. My two I signed up for shoudln't be too difficult. I picked easy ones. I can certainly read 10 ebooks in a year and what's one reread a month? :)

  11. Hey Christine, so you found a YA challenge! I must go join now.

  12. I'm gonna possibly change your mind again! Thea at The Book Smugglers posted a review of The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson. It sounds wonderful - go check it out! :)

  13. Christine - Glad I could remind you of one! Yeah, I had an opportunity to meet Diana last year at a Colleen Gleason signing. She's awesome! And has this really terrific writing sensibility. I hope the books end up being a huge success for her. I can't wait to receive it.

I'm doing the VC Andrews challenge this year. I'm looking forward to diving back into the books I read growing up. Should be hilarious and fun.

  14. Good luck with all four challenges Christine! What else apart from the YA challenge have you signed up for (or should I just look at your archive ;)

    Hmmm...maybe I should investigate a few challenges...

  15. Please ignore my previous query about challenges. I should obviously start reading from the bottom in future :) Challenges discovered :)

  16. Have fun reading. I don't read as much as I'd like to, having so much to do. Let us all know how they are.

  17. Hello my dear...ohh my guess what? I joined another challenge but it is a mini-challenge. I am being very ambitious and am hopeful that I can accomplish all that I have set for myself. I have to give you props for it is you, that have made me a more dedicated reader and blogger.

Please forgive my forgetful mind at not mentioning my new bloggy. I must have had internal dialoge and assumed that the task was done.

I like your choices and your last choice looks good also *runs off to amend list*

  18. Cool. Lots of good books there. I like the House of Night books by the Casts and I just finished the 3rd book in the vampire academy series.

  19. Tracy:: Thanks for the heads up on Thea's review of the Jenna Fox book--it looks really good and I may just add it to my list as well.

orianna:: Well, did you join any Reading Challenges yet? No pressure. ;)

DW Golden:: Thanks for stopping by. I hope I keep up with the Challenge and am able to post reviews and that you stop by again to check them out!

    J. Kaye:: Thanks for the welcome. I will definitely consider the Support Your Library Challenge next year. I love that idea!

DarlingDiva:: Thanks for the heads up on the YA Challenge and I'm so excited that you started your new blog! Hopefully we'll both have a very productive year in reading!

Kris:: Hi! I didn't realize you read a lot of YA, too!! That's good to know! :)

  20. Hello there! I'm participating in this one too.
Oooh you'll love the house of night series but you'll love vampire academy more haha
Oh and you're also going to read The third Gemma Doyle book I LOVE that series!!

    Happy reading :)

  21. Hiya, information just got posted on Catching Fire, I just put it up.

  22. robin_titan:: Hiya! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog! Wow! It looks like we've got a lot of similar tastes in YA lit! I love that.

I still haven't read my YA novel for January, and I am sad to admit that I went through our YA shelf and looked for the shortest, but most interesting novel to cast as my selection. Right now I'm planning on reading Bound by Diana Jo Napoli, but am also considering Tales of Beedle the Bard.

I'm looking forward to reading about your challenge book for this month! :)

    Ravenous Reader:: YESSSS!!!!!!

    *runs over to your blog*
