My 101 Things to do in 1001 Days

Have you heard about The Day Zero Project? It's a project concept that was started by a blogger from New Zealand in 2003 that is meant to challenge, encourage and inspire you to set and achieve 101 personal goals and accomplish them in 1001 days.

What's so special about that? you ask. Well, this is what I think is so special about the project that made me want to do it.

One. The time frame. 1001 days is about 2 3/4 years, which gives you ample time to plan and carry out your goals and also spans over several changes in the season. This affords you the time you may need if you fail the first time on a task (hopefully not parachuting) or fall short on a task (like growing your bangs out), you can keep trying until you get it done. It also gives you the chance to accomplish a goal that is season dependent (like gardening or skiing).

Two. The number of tasks. Yes, 101 goals is a lot of goals, which I think is beneficial. Why? Because it gives you the opportunity to come up with short and long term goals, easy ones and challenging ones, and hopefully even a few that today may seem near impossible to you. As you tackle the easy ones, it will give you confidence to work on the more difficult or time consuming ones. As you tackle those goals, it'll motivate you even more to work at the next level goals. Before you know it, you'll be checking off so many of your goals that you'll be empowered and determined to reach every single one of your goals--even the ones that seem far reaching today. Well, that's what I'm hoping for, anyway. ;)

Three. 101 Things to do in 1001 encourages you to be creative with your goals and finally accomplish things that you've always wanted to do, but just never followed through with.

Several months ago, I came across a 101 Things to do in 1001 post by a young woman named Brandy with whom I crossed paths on the Tasty Kitchen Forums. I loved the idea of the project and have been working on my list on and off for a couple of months already. I am finally ready to get started! Here it goes . . .

  3. Hi Kathy!
Thanks so much for visiting. :)

I actually have that goal in there 4 times! Plus one for those last 3 lbs. ;) It's one of those goals that would be more motivating for me to reach in stages. And how sweet of you to say I don't have to lose that much unless I plan on gaining it! Thank you for saying that... but the scale doesn't lie! Neither do my jeans! LOL.

Mariana, thank you!! Happy Mother's Day to you, my dear! xo

  7. Wow Christine this is such a good idea! I hope you reach all your goals (even losing 10lbs 4 times! LOL)
I've been thinking a lot about you lately cause I need to lose 10lbs twice and it always reminds me of that app for the iPhone you once told us about. I downloaded it, but never used it :)

I will write my 101 goals later today! You should put the link to yours on the sidebar so we can check how you're doing and keep cheering you on!

    Good luck hun!

  8. I will look at you and cheer--constantly.

I will not come up with my own list, however. I'm a life-drifter, myself. ;-)

    Happy Mother's Day, Christine! *hug*

  9. Christine! That's a wonderful list. I'll be cheering you on all the way. :D

Happy Mother's Day to you! xoxo

  10. Hilda: You should open that app and start using it! Although, the units are for the US only (cups, not ml stuff like that) so you may have to do some mental adjustments. If you get in the habit of using it every time you eat something, you will be able to stay on task.

I'll be looking for your 101 goals!!! It'll be great to have some company on this project for the next 1001 days! LOL! And I'll make a link on my sidebar. Good idea! :)

azteclady: Thanks for the cheers! :)
I love the life-drifter style, too... but I derive a lot of satisfaction of crossing things off a list! ;)

Happy Mother's Day to you, too! *hug*

    Hilcia: Thanks for the cheers!
Happy Mother's Day to you, too! xoxo

  12. LOL! Thanks, nath! I so love having a personal cheering squad. ^_^

I think I'm simply fond of making lists more than anything. LOL. I'm also a serious procrastinator. Yet I know how rewarding it is actually get stuff done and even better to meet some challenging goals... So that's what motivates me to do challenges. Whatever works, right? :)

  13. That's one amazing list - all the best! Am sure I can find some pompoms!

I like the 'Run 5 km in less than 33 minutes' goal...

  14. Hey, this is a fantastic list! There are so many things I identify with, especially the cross-stitch projects! :D This really makes me think about my own 101 things - perhaps I'll even be brave enough to take up the challenge! ;)

  15. I love this list! I thought it was very funny how you put "lose 10 pounds" multiple times. That is something I would totally write on my list! I am so inspired by this idea that I am going to create my own 101 goals in 1001 days list!
