Where In the World Are You Reading? Reading Companions

Where In the World Are You Reading? is a monthly book meme created and hosted by the lovely Trish [Love, Laughter and a Touch of Insanity], Lisa [Books, Lists, Life] and Kelly [The Written Word], which encourages readers to share their reading habits through different monthly prompts.

This month's theme for Where In the World Are You Reading? is reading companions. My cats are without a question my most loyal reading companions. I honestly think they've come to associate books with snuggling.

The feline reading companions in the photos below are two different cats.. Mona and Gigi, who are sister and brother. We have two other cats who also curl up on my lap when I read, but they are more interested in napping on my lap than the books I'm reading. ;)

"These are the things she likes to sit and hold.
Maybe if I lay near or on top of it, she'll hold me, too," ... think the cats.

"Pay attention to ME!"

"Looking for your book? I haven't seen it."

Sometimes my daughters and I read side by side together. Every once in a while we read the same books so we can chat about them, but that hasn't happened since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. My oldest and I tossed around the idea of read Les Miserables together over the summer, but we never got around to it. Just recently we joked that we should both just read the sparks notes and then see the film together. We laughed.. but you know.. I'm thinking we might just do that.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
Once in a while, on the weekends, my husband is my reading companion. He watches footy [soccer] and I snuggle up next to him with my latest read. This usually leads to a nap for me. At least until a goal is scored.. then I'm woken up quite abruptly by the "NOoooo!" "What the heck was that?" or the "YESSSS! What a goal!"

My favorite reading companion.

  1. You did a great job with this one. I don't have many pictures of my animals with books so I mainly just posted some of their pictures in general. This is giving me ideas to make more animal pictures with book settings though!

  2. Your kitties are lovely!
Saving Grace is pretty swoony too!
    It was a lovely post!

My only reading companion is usually my puppy, who is actually about 9 years old, a German Shepard/Lab Mix who believes he's a lap dog and tries to pull my arm away each time he seems me holding a book - don't hold it against him though, he's the only one who stays up with me when I'm sick.

  3. Awww, your kitties are so cute! My reading companions are too numerous to name, but I usually have one constant- Layla. She likes to curl up on my lap or chest while I'm reading. Though most often, she tries to curl up on top of the book to make sure she's getting all the attention.

  4. You knocked it out of the park here! I'm so glad you said that was two different kitties though, I assumed the same. I think this is why I'm stuck thinking you only have three. "Only"

  6. I don't know if I'd be able to read with a cat staring at me like that! ;-)

  7. So glad you all enjoyed my reading companion photos. Most of those photos were taken before this month's meme and only the last one (with my husband and me) was staged. All of the others were spontaneous. It's a good thing I almost ALWAYS have my phone in my pocket or nearby--even at home--so I can catch these kitty moments.

Erin, You managed some photos with your animals, after all! Those were very cute!

Alex, I had a lot of fun coming up with captions for those kitty photos! Aww, it's always the big dogs who end up thinking they're lap dogs, isn't it? Your dog sounds very faithful to you. I love that.

Brandy, I imagine your cats fight for your lap when you settle down to read!

Lisa, Ha ha, thanks! Actually we don't have ONLY four. I've been suckered into taking the last two kittens from a litter at the shelter TWICE! And then a bonus Christmas rescue once, too. [Our white cat's brother died from cancer before we got the black kitties.] I should introduce them one of these days on my blog. I tend to post more photos of them than my kids!

Uniflame, Thanks! The cats are fun to photograph.

softdrink, It is quite an ominous stare, isn't it? It's actually her sleepy look so it didn't last long. lol!

  9. I so wish that I could read with the TV on but I'm too distracted. Even if it's a show I have absolutely no interest in (which is about 85% of what hub watches). I've honestly considered earplugs. ;)

Your cats are absolutely beautiful and WOW look at that nailpolish color. And great idea about the sparknotes. I LOVED the book but will read the abridged version next time around--there's just too much blahblahblah in the book. Can't wait for the movie!

  10. I love how your cats are sitting with a different book in each picture! Too cute :)
