REMINDER: In Death Reading Challenge this week

Just a friendly reminder that if you're participating in the In Death Reading Challenge, we're in the last week of January (gasp!), so start reading your In Death book for this month if you haven't already. Of course, there are a few readers who have not only jumped on board, but they're reading as if this were a race! Namely, Lori, Natalie and our very own perpetual In Death re-reader, azteclady (see the comments in that link). All three of them have already read or re-read, at least two books. Lori is up to book nine or ten, I think.

If you haven't been by in a while, I made some changes to the challenge rules in that you're not required to write a review or commentary every month. Of course, I encourage you to talk up the books on your own blogs, but if you like, you can also simply keep a running list of the books as you read them. However, if you manage to keep up the pace and read at least one book per month, I will be doing a drawing and giving away a prize every four months to one reader who has stayed on track. So be sure to visit my blog at the end of every month to link your list with Mr. Linky so I'll know if your eligible for the drawing. Visit the sign up post HERE for more details. January's Mr. Linky post --and perhaps a discussion prompt-- will be up on Saturday, January 30, so stop by sometime over the weekend to add your link and join in on the book chat.

I still can't believe it's the last week in January already. It seems it was just yesterday that I was reviewing my 2008 reading stats and making crazy plans to join all of those reading challenges for 2010. And then, poof! It's nearly February, already! Well, there's one week left in January, and I plan on making it a productive one where reading challenges are concerned. I pulled out Ceremony In Death from my TBR boxes this morning (still haven't unpacked my books since moving back into the house back in May!), and will start it tonight.

I also finally started reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows over the weekend. This last book in the series has been at the top of my TBR pile since it came out in 2007, and thanks to the motivation behind the Big Book Challenge I recently joined and the persistent nagging of my 10 year old over the last few weeks, I'm finally going to read it. Now that I'm reading it, every morning she wakes up and every afternoon she gets home from school, she asks what part I got up to since she last asked. It's quite cute.

I hope you all have a great week reading!

  2. The thing I liked the most about the Harry Potter books was that it encouraged not only kids to read, but teens and adults as well. My hubs read the books right along with my Daughter.
I messed up the teen reading challenge thing. I totally forgot I signed up for.
    Happy Reading!

  3. If I'm reading like it's a race, it's all your fault *g*. I never planned to read them, but noooooo. You had to challenge me.

And I agree - where did the time go? Sheesh!

I haven't read any of the HP books. And I forbid you to create a HP challenge.

  4. Lori, I agree with you definitely it's Christine's fault. LOL. And the good thing about it? - it didn't even feel like this was a challenge to me after all because I am lovin' everything about the first 3 books so far. It's like feeding me with chocolates, soooo delicious I'm floating with arms wide open. And I didn't even know I'm on a race? - then I'm definitely behind!

I've only read the first 2 books of HP. Don't know when I'll ever get around finishing the series. But some day - somewhere in time I'll get my hands on it. Someday...

  5. Michelle : I remember reading book SIX in two or three days when it first came out ... but I think it's the least memorable of the first six. Everyone tells me this last book is wonderful, so I'm sure I'll get sucked in soon and not be able to put it down. I'm only on p.60 something right now.

Brandy : I agree. I can't believe I started out reading the first HP books to my girls when they were so little! I remember reading them aloud to them while my youngest was in my arms nursing! And now POOF! Years later, we're still reading and rereading them! Amazing.

Oh! And I think you can join J.Kaye's YA reading challenge at any time. Go visit my YA Challenge link from a few weeks ago and there's a link to J.Kaye's blog from there. Let me know via email if you have any questions about how to sign up. I'd be happy to help! :)

Lori : LOL! I will not make an HP Challenge since I'm nearly done with the series. But I'm already thinking of a few others for 2011. Of course, I think I'll be doing the In Death one for THREE years at this rate. *frazzled*

Natalie, for once, I'm happy to be the blame of something. LOL. I'm so thrilled you're loving this series so much. And you're doing an amazing job at capturing what makes these books so fantastic in your posts!

  6. I only have 1 1/2 books (the 1/2 being the novella) to read before I am caught up with the In Death books. Not sure where I am on the library hold list, I'll have to check. I may join the challenge for February if that's OK Christine?

Oh, and you're reading your big book - YAH! Weirdly, I'm reading a big book (Eclipse, which is 628 pages long), but it wasn't on my list. Oh well, it's a flexible challenge *grin* I'm still going to try and read Kushiel's Dart before the end of the year.

  7. Absolutely, orannia. You know I'm very flexible and easy. We just want to have fun, right? ;)

Yes, I am reading my BIG BOOK. I actually read a book that was over 500 pages in 2010 already. The young adult novel Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl came in at 563 pages. It was very good, too, by the way. I should write a review... it was unique and appealing in several different ways. But yeah... the Harry Potter book is 700something pages so I'll make it my official BIG BOOK for 2010. :)

  8. I DID sign up, remember? I just don't remember how to post when I read one. *G* I've had a lot of "brain fog" going on lately.

  9. Goodness! I've only read one so far... Book #1!! But I think I'm excused since I was suffering from reader's blog for most of the month. I hope to catch up soon enough, although at this rate it will be 2012, lol! ;D

  10. Reader's Block! I meant to say reader's block... ugh!

  11. I have not read one yet this month! I am deep into rereading some old Julie Garwood's, you might not see me resurface for a while!

  12. Brandy : Oh, okay. Senior moment. pfft! Oh wait. "Brain fog" is a better explanation.

What you needed to do was make a post on your book blog about the YA Challenge like mine HERE and then take the url for your YA post and enter in the Mr. Linky at J.Kaye's blog where she had the sign up post HERE. You can click on my name on the sign up list --I'm #310-- and see that it goes to my YA Challenge post. Then you just keep editing that post on your own blog as you read your YA novels.

If you choose to review your YA books as you go along, you can link them to J.Kaye's blog in the Mr. Linky thing for the YA reviews HERE. But you don't have to do reviews if you don't want to.

I hope all of that helps?

  13. Hilcia : Just reading one In Death book so far is FINE! One book per month... that's the challenge. Don't mind Lori and Natalie. LOL.

At this rate, I'll be doing this challenge until 2012, too! So you'll have company. ;)

  14. Lisa, no worries. Have fun with this challenge, join in when you can. :)
