Library Loot VII

Library Loot is a weekly blog event that encourages bloggers to share what books they borrowed from the library that week. To participate, simply make your Library Loot post on your blog and link it using the Mr. Linky link at Marg's blog Reading Adventures or Eva's blog A Striped Armchair. FYI, this week's Mr.Linky is at Marg's.

Today is Veteran's Day, a federal holiday in the United States on which we specifically honor veterans who have at one point or another, served our nation in order to protect our freedom.

Despite the fact that libraries are closed today in honor of our Veteran's, I have some library loot to share that I borrowed a few days ago.

Revenge of the Spellmans by Lisa Lutz.
The Spellman Files series, Book 3

As I've mentioned previously, I started this series initially on the recommendation of Li from Me and My Books, but also endorsed by Michelle from The Redheaded Book Child. Michelle even possesses an ARC of the fourth and final book in the series due out in May. Lucky Michelle! Also, nath from Books, Books and more Books has read the first book in the series, too and we're working on a buddy review that will hopefully get posted soon. I'll give the heads up here when it does.

I'm obviously really enjoying the series as I've now borrowed the third book in the series and will definitely be reading it soon. I've really become attached to Izzy from whose perspective the story is told and I already have ideas about what I want to happen by the end of the series. I do hope my wishes come true.

Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen.

I have wanted to read Garden Spells for probably over a year by now, ever since I read a glowing review for it on Brie's blog many moons ago. I saw a few new favorable reviews for it pop up recently and decided it was definitely time for me to read it.

What books have you been wanting to read for ages based on favorable reviews but still haven't gotten around to?

  1. I'm so happy you love the Spellmans as much as I do. Izzy is great! But I am fond of Rae as well.

I used to have a copy of Garden Spells and I have no idea where it went. I guess I have too many books if I am losing them, huh?

    Have fun reading!

  2. I just gave you an award too. It's my newest post.

  3. I admit the more I read, the more I envy that you have the fourth book already! LOL!

I hope to start Revenge of the Spellmans soon. It was only a two week borrow!

Thanks so much for the award, Michelle. You made my day! :)

  4. I read the first book of the Spellmans and then for some reason forgot about it by the time the second book was released. I'll have to go back and read it.
I loved Garden Spells and can not wait for the next book by Sara Addison Allen to be out next March, The Girl Who Chased the Moon.
I'm always on the lookout for new authors or new books, so will have to pay attention to the Library Loot posts. *G*

  5. Brandy, you should go back and check out the other Spellmans novels. I'm getting more and more attached to the characters as I get to know them better... and still fun and quirky at the same time.

I take it you've also read Sugar Queen? You enjoyed it as well?

  6. Not heard of the Spellmans. I might give them a go. Thanks. (Came here from Red Headed Book Child)

  7. Oh, you've got to read Garden Spells ... it's fantastic! I've read Sugar Queen too; while it was good, it wasn't as captivating as GS.

  8. Oooh, I'm glad you like the Spellmans. I didn't realise the next book was the last - I'm glad it isn't an open-ended series.

    And yes, lucky Michelle!

  9. I've heard of Garden Spells, but never read it. I look forward to hearing what you think :)

As for me, after Promises In Death I will be reading (from the library) a book that has been on my TBR list for forever!

    *drum roll*

  10. I don't think I've ever heard of the Spellman series. I'll watch for that buddy review. :)

I've had Garden Spells on my TBR pile forever. I really need to read it soon!

  11. I've also had Garden Spells in my TBB list ever since Brie reviewed it. I'll probably get to it this coming year. :)

  12. Izzy is a riot :D I'm sorry it's taken so much time to get the review together!!

So, does it get better with book 2?

  13. Too many books I've been waiting on and still haven't gotten to. I usually put them on hold and then many weeks later they finally arrive. Sometimes I've even forgotten why I had them on hold in the first place!

  14. I preferred Sugar Queen to Garden Spells. I liked the idea of a woman coming into her own and finally understanding that the only person she needed to make happy in the end was herself.

  15. Sheila, thanks so much for stopping by. The Spellmans books are fun and quirky, but also have a serious side. I hope you enjoy them if you get around to reading them.

Jace, didn't you review Garden Spells at some point, too? I forget where I heard of it first... but you and Brie definitely convinced me to eventually check it out.

Li, I agree. I think four books in the series is a nice length. Have you read all three of the current releases?

orannia, so excited you are finally reading Grimspace! I hope you enjoy it.

Leslie, hopefully I'll be able to provide you with reviews for both The Spellman Files AND Garden Spells soon and inspire you to read them, too! :)

Hilcia, you have Garden Spells in the TBR, too?? We should do a book club!

nath, no worries with the buddy review. I think we're almost ready... I'll email you in the morning.

And yes, I enjoyed book 2 even more than the first one. It flows better and you get more emotionally attached to the family, I think.

Melissa, thanks for stopping in. I've done that with holds before, too!

Brandy, I'm sure I'm going to end up reading Sugar Queen as well. I'm curious as to which one I'll like better. I do love "coming into her own" type stories.

  16. Before I looked at the comments, I wondered where I read a review of Garden Spells that made me want to read it immediately. Now I'm rather sure it was on Jace's blog. :)

I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it.

  17. I loved Garden Spells, and can't wait for her new book to come out next year!

    Enjoy your loot!
