I decided to do the 5 Mile Run today that was the unofficial, non obligatory, culminating event to the Fall Run class that I've been taking for the last five weeks. Just five weeks ago, I posted about my spontaneous decision to sign up for the Fall Run class considering I didn't like running and I could barely run 2 miles without stopping. Now here I was today, running in a 5 Mile Run! I'm so glad that I decided to do it. I have such a great feeling of accomplishment.
This is a photo of me and my running partner coming across the finish line at 1:01:47. After doing time trial runs last week, I had hoped to run 5 miles in 00:57:00. Oh well. At least now I have a goal for my next race!
My husband took the photo. He and our girls came to cheer me on at the end of the race. I saw them at the 4 mile mark, then they took a shortcut to the finish line where they greeted me with hugs and kisses, congratulations and of course, photo ops! They made me so happy. :)
I actually learned today that this was not the end of the run class after all. We started a week late because of scheduling issues at the beginning, before I even signed up, so we have one more week. Tuesday we're going trail running on the trails along a lake in the nearby Wildlife Reservation. I can't wait! Says the non-runner as of five short weeks ago. But not anymore. Now . . .
I'm a runner.

ReplyDeleteThat is really awesome. Congratulations! you're a RUNNER! I went through a short phase in college where I thought I would be a runner. Trained with a group for a marathon, but never got over 10 miles in my training. I did finish the marathon on race day, but omg, I thought I was gonna die. lol. Still, there is a magic about crossing that finish line. :)
ReplyDeleteAw, you guys are awesome!! Thank you so much for all the support, encouragement and kudos. Y'all are my own personal cheering squad! Next to my family, that is. ;)
ReplyDeletesula, you finished a marathon?!? Holy smokes, girl. That's fantastic! Granted I'm twice as old as a college student right now...but still. I can't ever imagine running 26 miles at any point in my life. LOL
"finished" is the operative word, Christine. I definitely did not run all 26 miles. A lot of walking, slogging, and almost-crawling went on. lol.
ReplyDeletekeep on setting and reaching your goals. you go with your bad self! :)
Run, walk, slog, crawl... 26 miles. I'm still impressed. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm late, late, late but:
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS Christine! This is awesome. :D
Thank you, Taja!!! :D
ReplyDeleteYou're not late! I'm accepting praises and admiration for this feat for at least a year! LOL! ;)
C!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's the most freaking awesome thing I've heard this week!!!
Very proud of you!
Christine!
ReplyDeletethat is sooooo awesome!!! I know, I know, W-A-Y late but sooo cool! :D
dd03, thank you!! I am so freakin' proud of myself, too! It's getting easier each time, too. Today my running buddy and I met in the rain... that turned to snow... and ran over 5 miles together and I didn't stop ONCE the whole time. I think we even had better time today than last Saturday, too! We're rockin'! :)
ReplyDeleteKIKA, thanks, kiddo! I REALLY appreciate the kudos! :D
OMG Congrats - that's awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tracy!!! :)
ReplyDeleteWOW! Isn't it amazing how all-of-a-sudden you can run five miles without stopping? And then running on the trails. Sooo different than street running. It's like around every corner is a new adventure! I think it's a lot more fun! You live in a much colder climate than I do here in California... and I look forward to reading more about your running adventures! :O)
ReplyDeletedoodlegirl, yes!! It is amazing to all of a sudden be able to run 5 miles without stopping. In just 6 weeks?! Who would have thought!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to reading your running adventures, too! I tried to subscribe to your blog via RSS feeds, but had some trouble. I'm just going to have to pop in now and then to check up on you.
Happy Running!
