Library Loot II

Library Loot is a weekly blog event that I recently joined that encourages bloggers to share what books they borrowed from the library that week. To participate, simply make your Library Loot post on your blog and link it using the Mr. Linky link at Marg's blog Reading Adventures or Eva's blog A Striped Armchair.

After reading some recommendations for Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles online, I searched for it on my library's online catalog a week or so and was delighted to see that my library actually had it--only it was out. On Monday afternoon, though, I got a call from the library informing me it was returned. I checked it out on Monday evening around 8 pm, started reading it as soon as I got home and finished it the following morning. Simply put, Perfect Chemistry is a contemporary version of West Side Story meets The Outsiders with a happy ending. Knowing it was just the kind of book to appeal to my teenage daughter, I suggested she read it. She read the back of the book and said, "Wow. This sounds really good!" She opened the book, flipped through a few pages, and was excited to see the chapters alternating between the female and male protagonists first person point of view. She promptly started reading and finished the following morning. So after having only been in our house for 36 hours, Perfect Chemistry was devoured by two happy readers.

  2. I think I have this on my TBR list, but I'm too scared to check as it has now hit 90 :( What's worse is that I haven't borrowed a book from the library in almost 2 weeks...and I'm a library addict!

Am currently working on a cunning plan to reverse this rather disturbing trend....

  3. I really love the idea of sharing your reads with someone and being able to talk it through and everything.

  4. nath: Yes, this is YA. Sorry... I sometimes forget to mention that in my posts. Do you read YA?

orannia: Oh, you should just borrow it. As you can see, it is a very quick read and oh so dramatic and sweet.

Does your cunning plan involve taking a sabbatical from responsibilities so you can just read for 40 days straight? ^_^

Marg: It is great sharing books with my teen. We've been talking here and there about bits and pieces of the book all day long.

  5. Now that must be a very good book to make two readers happy :) I hardly go to my library anymore, I thought the annual fee was a waste of money since I have a ever-growing TRP. Up till my late twenties I loved to go ever Saturday and pick me up some lovelies :D

  8. I have this on my TBR pile! For some months now actually... I so wanted to read it when I got it, but RL got in the way and then it totally slipped my mind.

    Thanks!

  9. Leontine: Most town libraries here are public libraries that are funded through property taxes, so we thankfully don't have to pay an annual fee. I, too, have fond memories of picking up books at the library when I was a child and teen. In fact, I never had air conditioning in my house when I was a kid, so I loved escaping to the cool library in summers even more!

Blodeuedd: It was a great book. I just love those star crossed romances. *happy sigh*

Eva: Hi Eva! Yes, I, too, thought it was nice to be called when the book was available. Especially since I put a reserve on it online--not even in person.

Taja: You do?!!? What are you waiting for? It's an easy read... you should be able to get through it no problem even with all that construction noise about you. ;)

  10. Sometimes books are like that, aren't they? Where you have to read them straight through. It's a rare find when you do. Congratulations for finding one. :)

  11. I do read a little YA, but mostly urban fantasy and fantasy. That way, I don't expect completely a HEA ending which makes it more believable.

  12. No tempting Christine. I think that is why my TBR list has ballooned...I keep be tempting by well meaning bloggers reviewing interesting books :)

Does your cunning plan involve taking a sabbatical from responsibilities so you can just read for 40 days straight?

    *bliss* Unfortunately no...although... *thinks*

  13. Christine, I don't usually read YA romance, but I placed this book on my list of books to read after reading MsM's review... it sounds great! Glad to see your recommendation. :)
