A Desert Island Keeper Book Tour

Last night, I was chatting with a few of my romance reading blogging friends (I heart AIM.  And YIM.) and in a matter of seconds the discussion was focused on books. Duh. Then in a matter of minutes we were declaring our DIK or Desert Island Keepers. The whirlwind discussion ensued and all of a sudden we were all stranded on this said island, each of us having six books in our waterproof survival bag, and none of us carrying a book that someone else brought.

I feel compelled to confess that I was slowest to claim my DIK books in the chat, and alas, Lisabea, CarolynJean and Katiebabs claimed Meljean's books before I got to grab one. So there is no Meljean book in my ziploc, which I feel terribly awful about. I even tried to trade a book with CarolynJean, but she would not relinquish claim on Demon Night, so I will just have to covet everyone else's Meljean books on the island. Because I heart Meljean and her Guardians.

Here is my list of six books for the DIK library:

1. Dark Lover by JR Ward.
2. Lover Revealed by JR Ward.
3. Lover Unbound by JR Ward.

'Nuff said. We had to have the complete set of BDB crack. Seriously.

4. The Spymaster's Lady by Joanna Bourne.

I don't read much historical romance. Not that I don't like it, I'm just generally not drawn to it. But this one got so much positive buzz, that I did pick it up and was so glad that I did. The Spymaster's Lady was sooooo good. Just like everyone said. Wonderfully developed characters. The heroine was fantastic... I loved her. Lots of intrigue and emotions layered within a really wonderful love story.

5. Blue-Eyed Devil by Lisa Kleypas.

*sigh* I don't even know where to begin or what to say about this story. I read it the week it was released and have already declared it my favorite book of 2008. It is absolutely wonderful and moved me so deeply.

6. The Smoke Thief  by Shana Abe.
This is one of my most favorite paranormal romance novels--and can be considered historical, too. The writing style is beautiful, the mythology and plot are unique and compelling, and the love story was wonderful. I enjoy rereading this one now and then, so it comes along, too.

What six books would you choose to add to the DIK bookshelf if you were stranded, too? And no repeats!

To discover the rest of our Desert Island Keeper bookshelf, go here to see what Katie(babs) chose. If you just started your island tour here, don't miss checking out the DIK selections of Kristie(J), Sula, Lisabea, and CarolynJean

  2. Great job, Christine. I still feel awful that Caine isn't on my list. And that I totally dropped the ball on Evanovich #4 which is a fun romp and much needed on our wee island of fun.

What's great is that there are 2 books on this list I haven't read. Yay!!!

  3. I have to read that Smoke Thief! Okay, Christine, sorry about not giving up the MJB. But you got Spymaster. And Dark Lover, Yum. I think that is my favorite.

From what I have heard, Blue-eyed Devil is a MUST bring. I can't wait to read it. Great list!!

  4. We definitely need crack on the island. I read all of these. We can have some stimulating conversations as we look for coconuts.

  6. I'm making Sarai our designated stowaway. She's got a great list over in lisabea's comments.

And since I caught some of my shipmates stuffing extra books in their bras and pants (see CarolynJean's comments), I'm going to sneak a few more, too. In my back pocket I'd put a Nalini Singh Psy-Changeling book. In my other back pocket, I think I'd take one of Lara Adrian's Midnight Breeds. Probably Midnight Awakening. In my bra, I'd maybe put a Kresley Cole IAD book and in my panties.... the newly released What Happens In Vegas anthology. We need some erotica and this one is sinfully delicious.

  11. Only six books? Guh. That's a tough call! I've actually read 2 of the books on your list: The Smoke Thief and Spymaster's Lady! *pats self on back* And I've got Blue-Eyed Devil on my immediate-to-buy-once-it-hits-mmp list.

I guess the best part about your desert island experience is, y'all can share! Enough Meljean to go around for everyone :)

  14. I wants to be a stowaway!!! I have some books listed at my blog. Check 'em out. There are some different titles. Perhaps you have not read them. Perhaps you would like to. Perhaps you will smuggle me onto the boat in your bra instead of another book (since I will have six of them with me).

  15. I want to stowaway too! Can I? Oh please! But, still moving and no longer have consistant internet access. Probably won't be able to update until I get back on Sunday. Sorry I haven't emailed you yet, Christine, I will I promise! I had a wonderful time. Must chat with you more often if it's not too much of a bother. ^_^

  16. hhmmm...do i have to post my own blog?

    My list would include:
The Talisman by Stephen King and Paul Straub

Lover Awakened by JR Ward (since ya claimed the others)

    Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz

The Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas

    Dark Destiny by Christine Feehan

Dance with the Devil (Bonus: A Dark-Hunter Christmas) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

  17. These are some cool titles you know. I am interested in reading them all. Mhm, it's a very bad quirk, hunger for more books. Heh. I will live through it somehow. I can't pick mine. I think I will cheat and say that the island itself is a portal library that delivers ever single book in print.

  18. dd03 : Well, you don't have to post your own blog, unless you want to play along with selecting which heroes you can bring with you (that's next week maybe). With that being said, you'd have to go visit the other islanders and make sure you aren't bringing the same books along. Which is why LOVE ETERNAL and LOVER AWAKENED were missing from my list. Other islanders already claimed them. And uh... DANCE WITH THE DEVIL, too. Wren's story too. Then you can pick two replacements. =)

daydream: LOL I like your solution! Of the books I listed, I bet you'd like the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by JR Ward. There are currently five books out... book six comes out June 3. You can check out the author's website here!

  19. I know! I know! I am so gonna get my hands on that series.
