HELP!!! My girl's a teenager!

It's official.
I have a teenager.
My daughter turned 13 today.
I can't believe I'm the mother of a teenager.
I'm too young to be the mother of a teenager.
Way too young.
Right?
Right?
..... this is where you say, "RIGHT!"....

*crickets chirping*

*deep breath*

I will not panic.
I will remain calm.
I will continue to act like I know exactly what I'm doing.
Heh... its fooled everyone so far!

It really is remarkable, and a bit unfair, how quickly they grow up. Thirteen years. THIRTEEN YEARS. Seriously, where did the time go? It seems like just yesterday our tiny little bundle of joy came into our lives. And now.... she's a teenager! So while part of me is in shock and perhaps a bit sad that she's done so much growing up in such a short time, another part of me is so incredibly proud of the young woman she is becoming. She is truly one of the most good natured, patient, thoughtful, empathetic, and helpful people I know. She is a good student, a passionate dancer, an active girl scout, and she loves to read!

Since we are both avid readers, and often read the same young adult novels, we decided to start a blog together where we could share our thoughts on the books with other readers. And we thought her 13th birthday would be a great day to start! Our mommy daughter book blog is called Bookalicious and tonight we posted our first duo review of Anna Godbersen's debut novel, The Luxe.

  2. *answers emphatically* RIGHT! :)

Yipes! A teen! As the eldest sister of 3, I can kinda sorta relate--when my "baby" sister started talking about the dreaded s-e-x with me, I completely flipped out.

Activities like reading the same books together is a great idea! I remember seeing Luxe in the bookstore when it recently came out--hopefully you both enjoy it! :) YA books are awesome, I'm a huge fan.

  4. RIGHT!!

Chris, you're WAY to awesomely young to have a teenager, unless of course you had her when you were just a teen yourself.

What a wonderful way to do some Momma/Baby bonding, a book blog! I'm heading over there right now to check it out!

  5. Christine, The mother/daughter blog is a great idea. I read a lot as a teen (Christopher Pike comes to mind). My mom wouldn't have ever read the same books as me. That is so cool that you have something in common! Your the coolest mom ever - Whoot!

  11. aw! The big 1-3! I see how excoted my students get when they hit that birthday.

The mother/daughter book blog is such a cool idea. You are the best mom ever!

I love YA novels. You may want to check out the author Garth Nix. I love him. He wrote a trilogy that starts with the book Sabriel. They are pretty dark, though. The main character is a necromancer, so (depending on your daughter) it might be a book you would want to read first. They are wondeful, though!

  19. Yay for Christine!! Once you live through age 15 (oh. oh.) it's all pretty good. Sure, boys dump them weeks before the prom (tool) and they cry and there is all that highschool drama, but girls are fun, they are smart, they tell you what's wrong, and you can STEAL their much cooler clothes. And shoes. NOTHING IS SACRED. I'm wearing big girls jeans Right Now.

    I love my girls!

And the blog is an excellent idea. Just, er, don't let her visit mine.
