I can't believe it's the last day of July already and it will be August in just a few hours! Poof! Well, it was a productive month for me in fitness. My fitness challenge miles totaled in at 123.2 miles for July! :) You can see my daily activities on my fitness blog, See how she runs... HERE. I got in a lot of swimming and biking this month and even participated in my first ever duathlon and practiced for September's triathlon by doing a mock mini tri with a local tri-women support group to which I belong.

I finished the duathlon [2mi run - 10.6 mi bike - 3 mi run] in 1:30 and a few seconds, with which I'm happy. The biking is my best component and I averaged 17.6 mph for that leg. The last 3 mile run after pushing so hard on the bike was brutal, but I did it!

I also participated in a practice min tri with a group of women from a local tri-women support group to which I belong just last Friday. The best part of that was that I did a 20 minute open water ocean swim! You may recall I struggled with that when I went to the beach earlier in the month to practice, but now I did it! Yay!!! The ocean was A LOT calmer this time and it helped that I was with such an encouraging and supportive group of women. I also did really well with the biking part, averaging 18.6 mph for a 7.3 mile ride! Hopefully I can do the same on race day in September! The run was still killer.. :/

So how did everyone do with their fitness challenge miles* this month?

*ONE fitness challenge miles = 1 mile walked or run for fitness OR = 15 minute increments of other exercise for fitness such as cardiovascular or strength training exercises.

How did you do with your fitness challenge goal for July?

What kinds of activities did you do to keep moving this month?

  1. Just curious--do you see yourself running a half marathon (or whole!) sometime down the line?

  2. Hi Phyl,
I actually do NOT see myself running a half or whole marathon! Although one should never say never about these sorts of things because I never, ever would have imagined myself doing a triathlon in my life, yet here I am at 42 years old... so you never know!

    But I doubt it. ;)

Have you or anyone close to you ran a half or whole marathon?

  3. I have several friends who have run one or the other. It clearly takes a great deal of training and conditioning. I just thought that perhaps the conditioning you have to do for a triathlon might be similar.

And I don't know what it's like by you, but there certainly are a ton of cars around here sporting the 13.1 and 26.2 car magnets signifying that the car's owner has completed one. You could have one :-)

  4. I managed 115 fitness miles this month. Not as many as I wanted, but Daughters new job and getting sick were obstacles.

I think you can do anything you set your mind to, a marathon would be just a matter of training and look at you now!

Hope you have a good week!

  5. YAH! Congrats Christine!

I just got back from the nutritionist and have lost 2.2 kg in 3 weeks! Scary! I seem to have improved my speed and stride, and obviously that helped. So, 4.6 kg to go to reach my target - YAH! Am enjoying the running too...slowly finding my zone *grin*

  6. Don't laugh but I actually completed my fitness miles every week in July. Of course, it helped that we had two games every week and a tourney every other but still... I finished!

    I walked &/or jogged

  7. Phyl.. I DO see those stickers on the cars all over the place. I plan on sporting the "I TRI" one in several weeks. :D

Brandy... you are doing a great job with your fitness challenge! I think anything over 100 miles a month is FANTASTIC.

Orannia... that's great progress! WOW! I need to copy you on that weight loss. I admit I haven't been trying very hard at losing more lately. I WILL... I guess I'm just focusing on the workouts right now.. some days doubling up with a bike and swim or bike and run, etc.. I plan to get back into the weight loss thing again soon. Good for you, though. I'm proud of you!

    Gina... congrats!!! That's GREAT!!!

Keep up the good work, everyone ! :)

    Happy trails. :)
