It's my turn to select a book for this month's online Authors by the Alphabet Book Club. We're up to the letter C and I chose Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie. It's a contemporary romance novel and is one of Crusie's most popular and widely loved novels. I've always wanted to read it and now I've got a handful of friends reading it along with me this month.
I'd like to invite YOU to read it along with me, too!
Need convincing?
"Minerva Dobbs knows that happily-ever-after is a fairy tale, especially with a man who asked her to dinner to win a bet. Even if he is gorgeous and successful Calvin Morrisey. Cal knows commitment is impossible, especially with a woman as cranky as Min Dobbs. Even if she does wear great shoes, and keeps him on his toes. When they say good-bye at the end of their evening, they cut their losses and agree never to see each other again.
But Fate has other plans, and it's not long before Min and Cal meet again. Soon, they're dealing with a jealous ex-boyfriend, Krispy Kreme donuts, a determined psychologist, chaos theory, a freakishly intelligent cat, Chicken Marsala, and more risky propositions than either of them ever dreamed of. Including the biggest gamble of all-true love."
Sounds fun, right?
Buy a copy, borrow from a friend, download it to your e-reader!
No budget for more books this month? Don't worry! I bet your local library has a copy sitting on the shelf just waiting for you to borrow.
The Authors by the Alphabet Book Club is an online book club that was started by Paula who blogs at Tome's Devotee and is made up of a small group of bloggers who take turns every month selecting a book for the group to read and discuss, making our way through the alphabet by authors last names. The person who makes the monthly selection is the one to host a discussion on her (his) blog on the last Thursday of the month.
Be sure to stop back here on Thursday, February 24, 2011 to join in on the discussion of Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie!
I'd love it if you could make it! :)

I think shall join you for this one! I've been meaning to read it for a long time! Now I got an excuse:D
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite books. It is so hilarious and so dang cute! I LOVE IT!!
ReplyDeleteIf I recall correctly, Bet Me was the starter of my Crusie glom. Great pick! :)
ReplyDeleteI really do like this idea of reading one book by a different author every month! I must ask, since there are obviously more than 12 letters in the alphabet does that mean that this book club will go on for over 2 years? Or is this a continuous type of thing where you go until you reach z and then start all over again with different authors?
ReplyDeleteI am sitting here right now with a pile of JC paperbacks-- after Jessica Tripler's feature last month I've been collecting the category backlist and finally found the last one on my list at half price books today. I'm feeling a binge coming on....
ReplyDeleteI will gladly give Bet Me a re-read for your discussion day!
I'll be here. I have a copy on my shelf and reread it at least once a year. LOVE Jennifer Crusie's books. Min is a great character.
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a wonderful weekend!
Hmmm, I've been telling myself i should re-read this book... perhaps this is my opportunity :P
ReplyDeleteI haven't read this yet. Ive actually started JC's Trust Me on This. I guess it can wait because the first two chapters of Bet Me was interestingly funny. 'twas so easy to like Min and Cal the beastly gambler. I'm reading this with you now. Thanks. -- Natalie
ReplyDeleteI think that I just may have to join in on the fun as well. I've been meaning to give Crusie a try for some time now. Great choice!

I love stories that are so dang cute! I can't wait!
tabz: Yay! Another Bet Me fan! :)
deanna: Yes, we plan on taking 26 months or more if we need a break to get to Z. I guess we'll decide then if we want to start at A again.
Nicola: I read parts of Jessica's feature last month on Crusie, too. And saw some of her Crusie tweets, too. The only Crusie book I've read so far is Anyone But You and I adored it. Hilcia recently read and reviewed Bet Me which helped give me the idea to pick this one for the book club! So glad you're joining.
Natalie: I've missed you! We need to get together soon! So glad to see you're picking it up too! :)
Bet Me was the start of my Jennifer Cruise glom...and is still my favourite Jennifer Cruise book! Maybe it's time for a re-read.... *grin*
