From the back cover ...
Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.
Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.
Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves-Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.
Many of my reader friends know I'm a huge fan of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series. Meyer's latest novel, The Host, was released earlier this week on May 6, 2008, and is Meyer's debut in adult fiction. Touted as the 'science fiction novel for people who don't like science fiction,' The Host promises a compelling blend of science fiction and romance. I was captivated by Meyer's amazing story telling voice in her Twilight novels, and am truly looking forward this new creative endeavor of Meyer. Revisit my blog in the near future to read my review of The Host and enter for a chance to win your own copy of The Host.
Sounds good. I've never read a Meyer before, so perhaps I'll start with this. :)
ReplyDeleteI just pick up a copy the other day. I was unsure about getting at first. But I read what it was about, and it sounds really good. Looking forward to hear what you think of it.
ReplyDeleteOh, I adore Stephanie Meyer's bookcovers although I still haven't had the chance to read her books. I want this!
ReplyDeleteAnna: I look forward to hearing what you think of The Host, too.
ReplyDeleteJace & daydream: Come back when my review is up... maybe in a week or so (640 page book! @.@), I'll be running a little contest with my review and you'll have an opportunity to win the book!
I too was looking at this one the other day. I have enjoyed her Twilight series as well. I have it on request at the library but am impatient and was debating about buying it. But I will probably wait.
ReplyDeleteChristine :) I am so excited to read this one as well--I have my pretty copy ready and waiting. And I agree with everyone here, Ms. Meyer's cover art is beautiful. Really eye catching.
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to read her Twilight series for a while now, but my TBR pile is so big it's hard to add another series to the pile! I told Mr. Wonderful that we should go backpacking on the Olympic Peninsula next time and drive through Forks. I wonder if they are still filming? It's a tiny, very wet town on the coast. I feel sorry for the actors. The damp never leaves your bones. I look forward to your review of the Host!
ReplyDeleteIt's 640 pages???? Wow!
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to figure out if I'm going to read this or not.
ReplyDeletehum I am debating on buying this one. I am dying to know if you liked it or not....
ReplyDeleteI didn't get a chance to start reading it yet. Sorry guys, busy weekend. I will start it tomorrow evening, and if Meyer's writing style is the same in The Host as it is in her Twilight series, 640 pages will go by quickly. Lots of real dialogue. I love that.
ReplyDeleteCiara, I think making a pit stop in Forks the next time you're hiking on the Olympic Peninsula would be a fabulous idea! I bet Forks, WA is practically a tourist spot now that Twilight has made it so famous! It sure looks very beautiful there.
ReplyDeleteI'm 400 pages into the book. Wow, it's a pretty amazing story.
ReplyDeleteHey Christine...I hope you enjoy this book. I have finally finished it and I do adore it. I am sad that I cannot see SM as she is on her book tour right now, but she is not coming anywhere near me. I guess I will have to see if she comes out my way for BREAKING DAWN. She is an amazing writer and fills her pages with such depth and emotion that you feel as if you are the one experiencing the story yourself.
