Gone Camping

http://www.savecamps.org/
A blog dedicated to saving girl and boy scout camps

I'm going camping with my 12 year old daughter and her girl scout troop this weekend, leaving shortly after school lets out this afternoon. Our weekend will consist of hiking, orienteering, canoeing, horse grooming {no horseback riding this time as the horses just arrived at camp for the season and aren't yet ready for riders...}, arts and crafts, campfire songs, s'mores and girls giggling to the wee hours of the morning. The best part? Aside from quality time with my daughter, of course... it's still too cold for mosquitoes!  ... and maybe a lot of other bugs, too?

What kind of plans do you have for the weekend?

Whatever it is, I hope you have a great weekend.

I'm planning to post a fun Q&A with my daughters on Sunday in honor of Mother's Day, but in case I don't get to it...

Happy Mother's Day to all of you who are moms! ^_^

  2. ya know, i ALWAYS wanted to to go to camp but it never happened for me. It sounds so fun. I had to look up what orienteering is and to be honest, that sounded like the most fun of all. You are certainly going to have a wonderful Mother's Day. The mosquitos are out in full bloom in my part of the world, so enjoy not itching and scratching this weekend. :O)

  3. Happy Mother's Day! You are WAY braver than I am to take a bunch of 12 year old girls camping. I hope y'all have a great time!
We're going to a Spring Fling tomorrow. I'm curious to see if the hubs will be trying alligator again like he did last year. *G*
    Stay safe and have fun!

  6. Happy Mother's Day, Christine! And yay for camping! I'm not a camping lover but I try to go once a year because the hubby loves it...and, because I should participate in something active besides turning pages. lol!

  10. Fond memories of camping when I was in Girl Scouts. It was fun "roughing it" but now I'd want indoor plumbing & electricity. And solid walls instead of canvas. LOL

Hope you guys had a great time!

  11. Hey everyone! Thanks for all the fun camping comments and the Mother's Day wishes. :)

Camping was great! We went to a YMCA camp this year for a change after going to our Girl Scout council's campsite for so many years. Not only were we in a gorgeous cabin, but this camp had a dining hall so we didn't have to cook our meals on a fire! Not that I don't enjoy campfire cooking--I do! But when you've got twelve hungry mouths to feed and one campfire, it's a lot of work and pressure to get it done. LOL.

The girls did arts & crafts, archery, riflery, a challenge course (ropes and climbing in the woods--very cool), survivor skills, helped clear some trails, went on a bog hike (fascinating), groomed some horses, went canoeing, had a campfire complete with s'mores (both nights!), songs, and skits. Wow. We packed a lot in! Fun stuff. :)

    I only took 240 photos. ;)
